Party of Five

Over two years ago, our dog, Kasey, passed away.  She was our "first chid" and it was so hard when we had to let her go, especially after spending more than 12 years with her. Kasey was approximately five years old when we adopted her.  She was well trained and very calm.  She didn't play with toys.  She just loved looking out the front door and window, following us around the house and sleeping! I took her on walks around the neighborhood and like most beagles she LOVED to smell EVERYTHING! She was an amazing sister when Courtney and Caroline came along.  They loved dressing her up and hugging and snuggling with her.  After we said goodbye, we needed some time, while I needed some time before getting our next dog.  The girls and Matt wanted a puppy a few weeks later, but I held them off because of our hectic schedules and the home improvement projects that needed to be completed first. Matt and I wanted an updated master bathroom and I knew I could use getting

Take care of your body and be strong.

Why exercise? Exercise helps you look and feel healthier but it isn’t all about weight loss. Your body needs to be treated well. It is meant to move. You need your muscles and bones to be strong to do all you need and want to do. That doesn’t mean you have to run marathons or lift heavy weights if that’s not what you like..simply go on a walk or dance or go bowling. If we aren’t kind to our bodies and treating them well, we can’t give all that we are meant to give. Take care of your body and be strong so you can take care of others...that is being brave. You can do it! I believe in you! # 100daystobrave   # takeaction   # moveyourbody   # fillyourcup

Weekend trip to the Columbus Zoo

School's out for the summer, so we started the weekend with a trip to see friends in Columbus, Ohio.  Caroline (6) had never been to the zoo, so we woke up bright and early.   We arrived as the Columbus Zoo was opening at 9 a.m. The sky was blue and the temperature was around 70 degrees...perfect zoo weather! The Columbus Zoo has various animal statues. The kids LOVED posing on them as we navigated from one exhibit to the next!  We made our way to the elephants for the Keeper Talk .  They were eating breakfast and very active moving around and rolling in the dirt. Did you know: An elephant can suck between 1-2 gallons of water into its trunk and squirt it into its mouth for a drink or onto its body for a shower. Courtney's (11) least favorite exhibit was the reptiles, but Caroline wasn't afraid to pet the snake!  We took a break for lunch in the Congo River Market Food Court which was air conditioned and reasonably priced.  I was excited to see

Ultimate Portion Fix: Smarter Meal Planning

Five years ago, I decided it was time for a change.  Each weekend, I vowed to go to the gym 2-3 times during the week, but then things always got in the way and I maybe made it once.  I said I was going to eat healthier but I got busy and grabbed microwave boxes for lunch and 100 pack calorie snacks for the morning and afternoon.  I wasn't sure how to make changes with a busy schedule, so I went on a mission to find a solution. A few months later I was sitting at the pool and I saw a friend's before and after picture similar to the one below.  I instantly sent her a message and asked for more information.  I asked her how much time she was spending at the gym and what she was eating.  To my surprise, she told me she was doing 30- minute workouts at home and creating weekly meal plans. I looked into the program and decided to take a chance on it.  I purchased it knowing if it didn't work, I could return it within 30 days and receive a refund.  However after 21 days

App for the Big Game

Fixate Guacamole This is a great appetizer for the big game and any day!! I love to have guacamole with chips and carrots.  It's also great on salads and sandwiches! 2 cups mashed ripe avocado (approx. 2 large) ¾ cup seeded, chopped Roma tomatoes (approx. 2 medium)  ½ cup chopped onion (approx. ¾ medium onion) 1 Tbsp. finely grated lime peel (lime zest) (approx. 2 limes) ¼ cup fresh lime juice (approx. 2 limes) ¼ cup finely chopped fresh cilantro ½ tsp. sea salt (or Himalayan salt) ¼ tsp. ground black pepper 1 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil 2 Tbsp. seeded, chopped jalapeño (approx. 1 medium) (optional) 1. Combine avocado, tomatoes, onion, lime peel, lime juice, cilantro, salt, pepper, oil, and jalapeño (if desired) in a medium bowl; mix well. 2. Serve immediately, or refrigerate, covered tightly, a few hours to let the flavors meld. COOK’S NOTE: To keep your guac bright green while storing, press a piece of plastic wrap directly over the top with all air bubbles sque

Features and benefits can make or break a deal

I am often told fitness is too “expensive.” When I ask people if they would be interested in joining me in my online accountability groups and to complete a test group of a new program, their first question is typically, "How much does it cost?"  I get it.  I prefer to get the best price on the items I buy.  I use coupons and love a great sale.  However, rather than asking for the cost first, I want to know about the product or package and what it includes.I also think about how often I will use the item and consider that in the cost.  So when I looked at the cost of joining the online accountability and test group, I looked at what's included in the package: Online Accountability group for support and motivation 1 year access to 1000+ workouts 1 month supply of meal replacement shakes or energy juice and recover drink to limit soreness Optional Step Nutrition Guides Getting Started Guides Wall Calendar/Tracker Cooking shows and recipes Meal plan template
