Time Management: My Morning Routine

People ask how I am able to find time for everything and a lot of it has to do with my morning & evening routines.
Of course, they are altered every now and then, but 90% of the time, this is how my day begins…

Each morning my alarm sings at 5:00am and I hit snooze.  Then I am dressed and working out in the basement by 5:20am.  After a 30 minute workout, I snap an “after” photo and then head upstairs to shower and get ready for work by 6am.  At 6:30am, my 7 year old daughter comes into my room dressed and ready for school…this kicks me in gear…if I haven’t already I make a final decision on what I am going to wear, get dressed and put on jewelry.

Once ready, the two of us head to the kitchen and I make breakfast for her and her sister, while my husband heads upstairs to wake up the 2 year old and get her dressed. Courtney picks out her snack from the pantry and the puts it in her backpack and turns on the TV. Typically at this point it is 6:40am, so we only have 20 minutes to eat and get out the door.  I have several choices for the girls’ breakfast…pancakes, French toast sticks, pancake on a stick, waffles or cereal.  No, none of these are homemade…THANK YOU SAM’S CLUB!!  Then each gets milk and either banana or grapes and gummy vitamins.  While they watch Arthur, I am busy putting the last minute lunch items together, filling water bottles and loading my car.
At 7:00am, Courtney & Matt put on their jackets and head to the bus stop (the bus arrives at 7:07am).  I blend my Shakeology shake which usually includes ice, water, scoop of Strawberry Shakeology, ½ banana and scoop of Raspberry yogurt.  Caroline and I head to the car at 7:05am and wave to the bus as we pass it…this doesn’t always happen as sometimes it’s 7:10am before we leave…or 7:15am if she dirties her diaper at breakfast (fun, fun, I know).

It’s a 12 minute drive from our house to daycare, so the goal is to arrive by 7:15am and then I head to work which takes another 7-15 minutes depending on traffic.  So I arrive outside my office building on campus between 7:30am and 7:45am.

And that it…that’s the first few hours of each weekday… again yes, the routine gets altered every now and then but for the most part, we are able to stick to this timeline…thanks to my nighttime routine, but I’ll save that for another post J

Birds of Paradise - Chicken Recipe

Growing up, we ate a lot chicken. Chicken and rice. Chicken and salsa. Chicken casserole. I wasn't sure why we ate so much chicken. I thought it was just because my mom was on a Weight Watchers diet.  She would put the chicken in the oven and then go on a walk.  I always wanted to tag along on my bike. Now I understand. Chicken is quick and easy. Chicken is inexpensive. Chicken can be healthy. Now as a mom I also understand, my mom wanted to on on those walks alone...to have some peace and quiet time!
