Tips to Waking up & Working out Earlier

My alarm sounds every morning at 5:05. Even though I definitely fall under the “morning person” category, I still find waking up and getting out of bed to be a bit of a challenge. I typically hit snooze once, rather than four times so I have time for my 30 minute workout and have an amazing start to my day!! Feeling well-rested is key to my workout performance especially so early in the morning,  I have water next to my bed and drink it as I head downstairs and typically have to have a refill in the middle of my workout.   By the end of the workout I feel accomplished and a positive tone is set for the rest of the day. Setting the alarm a little earlier means that I can peacefully workout, listen to a podcast, post about my workout and get ready for the little ones wake up. Having the routine and sticking too it may be crazy, but it helps me to rush less and limit stress!
I think it's easier to get up and jump right up....like ripping off a bandage...rather than laying there for a few minutes to feel soreness and tiredness. You've just got to go for it and find little ways to motivate yourself and ensure that you wake up on the right side of the bed.
1. Put space between you and your phone.  It may be difficult to turn off your phone entirely, but it's best if you can at least leave it in another room or across the room.  I know it's hard to detach from...I had mine next to me for about a year as my alarm clock and found I would scan FB just before turning off the lights.  Not the best idea as I thought about things I saw and people I wanted to talk to the next day rather than going to sleep. Now I keep my iPhone next to my bed as an alarm clock and have the discipline not to open it until the alarm goes off.
2. Have a list: Include on the list what you have to accomplish the next day and when you have time in the future. Getting up at 5:05 only provides workout time for me, but as I think of things I need to do, I write them on the same list.  Then when I have time to complete other tasks, I reference that list to determine what is most important at that time.  When I know I have deadlines, I’m more motivated so I give myself timelines as well! Trying to remember everything you want to do is impossible so take notes and write in a simialr place so when extra time arises you don't have to remember what you wanted to get done.   Not only does this help me get all of the thoughts that would normally spin through my head out on paper, it also serves as a motivator when I see it in the morning.
3. Prepare the night before:  To make things run a little easier and smoother in the morning preparie the night before.
Start with the to-do listed mentioned in #2.  I also help the girls pick out outfits after we check the weather during our bedtime routine.  I put together lunches and have the lunchbox in the fridge.  My work bags are repacked and next to the garage door.  I put my workout clothes on the bench in the closet and have my tennis shoes there as well. Then I pick out my own outfit...otherwise I am fumbling through clothes and putting on mutiple outfits in the morning!!
4. Have another form of motivation:  Set a second alarm as a calendar reminder on your phone.  Have a text buddy and try to text them before they text you each morning.   Join an accountability group that you post to daily and think about that post each morning when you wake up. Post your favorite quote or your fitness goal on your snooze button so you feel it when you reach to hit snooze.  Read it for extra motivation in the morning.  Ask you partner to give you a little nudge when they hear the alarm to "kick you out of bed!!"

5. Know your why: Know why you are getting up each morning and why you want to accomplish your daily tasks.  Set goals and create a vision board so you can remember what you are working toward. Share your why with others either in person or via social media.  Ask them to help you by talking about your progress daily!!

Birds of Paradise - Chicken Recipe

Growing up, we ate a lot chicken. Chicken and rice. Chicken and salsa. Chicken casserole. I wasn't sure why we ate so much chicken. I thought it was just because my mom was on a Weight Watchers diet.  She would put the chicken in the oven and then go on a walk.  I always wanted to tag along on my bike. Now I understand. Chicken is quick and easy. Chicken is inexpensive. Chicken can be healthy. Now as a mom I also understand, my mom wanted to on on those walks alone...to have some peace and quiet time!
