Spring break and summer vacations are just around the corner!! If you are headed to a resort paradise destination, here are some tips I think you may find helpful....
1. Limit outfits and dresses:
If traveling to a resort you can really limit what you take.
I like to wake up each morning and start the day with a workout or walk on the beach so I pack shorts, tank tops and socks for each day. I wear my tennis shoes to the airport and then change into sandals before we land in the tropical paradise.
After my workout, I typically order room service (or Matt will order while I'm in the middle of my workout). I prefer to have
breakfast delivered to the room so that I can change into my swimsuit and apply my first layer of sunscreen. I bring a swimsuit, cover up and coordinating sandals/flip flops for each day.
After spending the day at the beach and pool, I return to the room to get ready for dinner. I pack one dress for each night. I love dresses, but they are not required so if you prefer pants or dressy shorts, that's fine too. Some resorts don't allow shorts in their "fancier" restaurants, so you will want to check the policy.
There are nights that my feet hurt and I want to dress down for after dinner activities so I will also pack a pair of shorts or capri pants and top for those occasions. I also pack pajamas for a cool and warm room...so a pair of shorts, pants, t-shirt, long sleeve shirt and sweatshirt.
I also recommend taking a light sweater or shaw for dinner and a light pullover or jacket in case it were to rain. I also pack undergarments, jewelry and shoes to coordinate with each outfit.
2. Use ziplock bags: I packed workout clothes and undergarments in ziplock bags for the first time on my last trip and found this saved space in my luggage and made unpacking when I arrived at the hotel much faster. Plus I put dirty items into the ziplock bags to travel back home.
3. Limit Luggage: Most airlines charge for each bag you check onto the plane. Therefore limiting what you take and packing items strategically helps limit how many bags you'll need to take. For our last trip, Matt and I shared a garment bag for dresses, pants, liquids and shoes. Then we each carried on a bag with all our other items.
When we arrived at the boarding gate we were offered to check our bag for free so we only had to carry it through security and not the rest of the way....and saved $50!
For my next trip I won't be traveling with Matt but with a friend. I am considering asking her to share a garment bag to save $25 each way...but can't decide if it's worth the hassle...that would be basically how much we each spend on a pedicure before the trip :)
